White Wines

Wonderful in the summer and great with poultry, fish and cheeses. White wines cannot be discounted as less complex or interesting as red wines. There are countless varieties and flavor profiles to suit every wine drinker.

Riesling

Riesling is a white grape variety which originated in the Rhine region of Germany. Riesling as a varietal is rarely blended with other grapes or stored in oak. Many of the Rieslings with high sugar content store well however, and some for over 100 years. It is a delicate skinned aromatic grape that produces a flowery, almost perfumed aroma with high acidity. Riesling comes in many styles including dry (Kabinett), semi-sweet (Spatlese), sweeter (Auslese), very sweet (Beerenauslese), and super sweet (Trockenbeerenauslese). The popular Ice Wine is often made with the Riesling grape. Riesling is a versatile wine for pairing with food, because of its balance of sugar and acidity. It pairs very well with white fish, pork, Thai and Chinese food.

Chardonney

Chardonnay originally from the Burgundy wine region is now grown almost everywhere wine is made. There are many styles of Chardonnay from unoaked, or stainless steel storage to those that are very oaky due to their lengthy oak storage. Flavors of vanilla, cream, oak, melon and pear are common characteristics. The Chardonnay grape is the most popular of all white grape varietals and is grown all over the world. It is also widely used in most sparkling wines from California, and because of its broad variety of styles, Chardonnay pairs well with fish, shell fish, poultry and sushi.

Sauvignon Blanc

The green Sauvignon Blanc grape has a robust and hardy vine that ripens early. Although the Sauvignon Blanc grape has gained much popularity on its own, it is often an important ingredient in some of the most expensive and sought after wines in the world. As a white wine on its own it has an incredible full flavor that pairs well with salmon, seafood, salads and poultry. It is crisp, dry, full of flavor, and ultimately refreshing!

Pinot Grigio

Unlike most white wine grapes the Pinot Grigio grape is a gray/blue skinned fruit or Pinot Gris grape. Light and refreshing especially it is one of the most popular wines in the world. Originally grown in Burgundy, France in 1300 it has found its footing all over the world. It has especially made an impression in Northern Italy where it has flourished as a regional wine. Because of its light flavor structure it is sometimes not taken seriously by wine experts. However because of its popularity, and great ability to pair with many dishes it is holding its own. Try with oysters, crab legs, clams, vegetables and seafood pasta dishes.
